Cryolipolysis， also called CoolSculpting or coolshaping is a new, FDA approved, fat reduction alternative to liposuction for people with a small amount of fat that resists diet and exercise. CoolSculpting is a totally non¬invasive, in office procedure that uses Cryolyposis to target, freeze and permanently eradicate fat cells.

This fat reduction technique works through a method called Cryolipolysis for the selective targeting and freezing of the fat cells in the treatment area. The procedure is performed using a small cooling device that is placed on the area to be treated for approximately 1-2 hours. After feeling some tightening and pressure on the treatment area initially, the area then becomes numb and nearly unnoticeable to the patient. Patients may work on their laptop, read, listen to music or even nap while the procedure takes place. The CoolSculpting system targets and freezes the fat cells in the area being treated, thereby, destroying the fat cells which are then absorbed and eliminated naturally through the body. There is no downtime and patients may return to their daily routine immediately, including work or their normal fitness routine.

Coolipo S treatment is a very suitable for people with fat. It is not a suitable treatment for those who have less than 1cm depth of fat in the area to be treated. In addition, it is not suitable for those who are pregnant, have a blood clotting disorder, a history of cancer and related conditions or cardiovascular devices fitted eg. pacemaker.

The destroyed fat cells at the treated area are reabsorbed by the body over the following 12 weeks. The dead fatty cells are naturally eliminated from the body, permanently removing the damaged fat cells from the body, leaving a slimmer waistline.

As long as additional weight is not gained, the fat cells will not return to the treated area. The treatment will not prevent new fat cells from developing and the patient is encouraged to continue with a balance of healthy eating and exercise to maintain the results.

In clinical studies, patients report an average reduction of 1 – 3 centimeters  for 1 treatment. Still, results can be highly individualized varying from subtle to dramatic, depending upon the physical state of the patient prior to treatment and the patient’s adherence to a healthy lifestyle. Patients can lost 0.5 inch to 3 inches post treatment, however it is not unreasonable to exceed even these results.

Immediately after the applicator is removed, the treatment area may look or feel stiff with transient blanching (temporary whitening). Most often there is redness to the treatment area, which resolves within a few hours. You should also expect mild bruising, swelling and tenderness, which resolves within 1-­‐2 weeks. Immediately after your treatment, you may experience a sense of nausea and/or dizziness for a few minutes as your body naturally warms and sensation returns to your treatment area. Numbness or “dulling” sensation to the treatment area is common and typically resolves in a few days but may persist a few weeks. Occasionally, you may experience more moderate pain and cramping the day of your procedure. You can take Tylenol as needed, use warm compresses or massage the area with a soothing agent such as aloe vera or aspercream.

Fat reducing treatments that use laser, heat, and even surgery to remove fat can actually destroy other tissue in the area by burning, destroying or removing non-fat cells. This requires downtime and days off work or school for your body to heal. The great thing about Cryolipolysis is that it freezes the fat cells without burning, destroying or damaging any of the other tissues nearby. The fat freezing process only kills the fat cells underneath the skin, literally freezing them to the point of elimination. Your healthy skin cells and tissues do not get harmed. No knives. No suction hoses. No needles. No scars. Once the fat cells are frozen, they get crystallized and are naturally eliminated from your body. A few months later, and you’ll be enjoying the body you once had.

Liposuction is a surgical procedure. That means it requires anesthesia, several incisions, and recovery time. The Cryolipolysis procedure is totally non-invasive. There are no needles, no incisions, and no downtime involved with Cryolipolysis. Since liposuction involves surgery, there are also risks and complications involved. Infection of the incision sites and fluid buildup can contribute to less than desirable results with liposuction.

On the other hand, Cryolipolysis is safe and low risk. Some people may experience redness, minor bruising, tingling, numbness or discomfort in the treated area, but this is temporary and will resolves completely on its own. Since there is no downtime associated with Cryolipolysis, you can resume your normal activities immediately after your treatment.

Cryolipolysis is safe, effective. Most importantly, it works. Results look natural and can be seen as early as three weeks following treatment, with the most dramatic results after one to three months. Most people only need one treatment session to fit back into those skinny jeans. What’s more, there are no pills or supplements.
